Corsica today, and to me the unexpected highlight so far, we docked in Ajaccio on the West side of the island ( the 4th biggest in the Mediterranean after Sicily, Sardinia and Cypress.
The harbour is beautiful with yachts, small working boats, luxury cruisers and surrounded with picturesque buildings and fortification. (the later thanks to the Genoese - one of the many occupiers of this land)
Our trip today took us in to the interior, and the mountains. coming down to the coast the mountains are lush and green to the tree line. Helped by the ample winter snow and rain.
On the way we passed forests of fruiting trees and pine, we saw the Corsican pigs - and later tasted the meat at the oldest hotel on the island located in a high pass in the middle of the mountains.
The mountains are mostly granite and have several colours making the views spectacular
Back onboard we enjoyed an ice cold beer.
Tonight is Island Party Night onboard - amazing displays of fruit are laid out
